Greater Vision was organized in 1990, and immediately
audiences responded overwhelmingly to their rich vocal blend and ability to
effectively communicate the message of the Gospel. Since the trio’s
formation, they have established a firm place at the top of the Christian
music ladder, being named Trio of the Year by both the Singing News Magazine
and the Southern Gospel Music Association. They also held honors for Song of
the Year in 1999 and 2000, with "My Name Is Lazarus" and "Just One More
Soul," respectively. Group members have been recognized individually as
well, with Rodney Griffin named Songwriter of the Year for the last three
years, and Gerald Wolfe being named Male Vocalist of the Year for two years
in a row. The group's tenor, Jason Waldroup, has also been recognized by the
readers of the Singing News Magazine, as one of Gospel music's Favorite
Tenors & Favorite Young Artists. Greater
Vision has been featured on numerous video tapings of the Gaither & Friends
Homecoming Video Series, viewed by literally millions worldwide. They also
appear regularly on In Touch, with Dr. Charles Stanley, as well as In Touch
Ministries' sponsored cruises and tours. Viewers across America see Greater
Vision on television via TNN, TBN, BET, the Family Channel, the INSP
(Inspirational Network), GMT (Gospel Music Television), The Odyssey Network,
and many other local and satellite channels.
Over the years, Greater Vision has achieved much radio
success. This trio has enjoyed numerous hit releases, as they continue to
produce songs which remain true to the rich musical tradition Greater Vision
has presented for over a decade. In 1998, Greater Vision became the first
Southern Gospel group to record with the world-renowned Budapest
Philharmonic Orchestra and Hungarian Radio Symphony. “Far Beyond This Place”
produced two Number One hits, both written by Rodney Griffin. “My Name Is
Lazarus” and “Just One More Soul” both reached the number one position on
the Singing News Magazine radio charts. Their next release, "Perfect
Candidate", once again teamed Greater Vision with the famous orchestra, and
produced one of the group's most requested songs ever, "God Wants to Hear
You Sing." Their latest recording is the trio's first-ever live project.
Recorded at Atlanta's First Baptist Church, "Live At First Baptist Atlanta"
includes the Atlanta Festival Orchestra and was released on cassette,
compact disc, VHS video and DVD. This new recording features nine songs
written by Rodney Griffin, as well as one classic convention-style favorite.
Already audiences have responded to the new material, with the first radio
single "Soon We Will See" quickly becoming one of the most requested songs
on Gospel music radio stations nationwide.
The vocals and the rich harmony Greater Vision has
become noted for are a result of the blending of three unique and versatile
vocalists. Gerald Wolfe, the group’s founder, sings the lead, prolific
songwriter, Rodney Griffin, handles the baritone part for the trio, while
Jason Waldroup, the youngest member, provides the exceptional tenor part.
Almost two hundred times every year, these three
gentlemen present the gospel in a way that has endeared them to audiences
with diversified musical tastes. Their diversity has gained them the respect
of fans and industry members alike. “We try to offer listeners lots of
variety, yet remain true to the traditional styling Greater Vision is known
for,” Gerald explains. “We sing to such a broad audience, and because of
that, there are people with a variety of needs. So we just try to sing songs
that minister to us, and if they bless us and minister to us, then we
believe our listeners will be ministered to at the point of their need.
After all, we don't measure our success by the number of standing ovations
we receive...our responsibility is to do whatever we can to allow the Holy
Spirit to work through us to touch and change lives. If we do that, then we
feel like we're successful. |
